Village Exchange

The Village Exchange is a striking, modern development located in the heart of Havelock North. This modern complex includes basement parking, retail stores, offices, restaurants, and a 42-room boutique hotel with conference facilities.

The Challenge

This large development was constructed in stages over the course of 18 months with tenant fit outs also taking place during this period. Obtaining an energy efficient solution that suited the wide variety of occupants and their needs proved to be a key challenge.

The Mitsubishi Electric Solution

The first building which was constructed accommodates the Porters Boutique Hotel, restaurant and conference rooms and was the first structure built on this site. A wide range of City Multi VRF units were installed into this building in order to best fit the design layouts of each room. In total, six R2 Heat Recovery VRF Systems were installed with a wide variety of indoor units ranging from compact and two-way cassettes to low static and mid static ducted units.

In the second stage, three more buildings were constructed on the site, housing offices and retail spaces. These buildings were designed according to a more generic base build mechanical services design, which could be easily adapted to tenant requirements as they became known. For these areas, a mixture of heat recovery systems for the commercial spaces as well as PUMY Heat Pump Systems and split systems for the ground floor retail stores were selected. Mitsubishi Electric Heat Recovery Systems were chosen for the open plan office spaces due to the design flexibility they offer to clients. Because these are simultaneous heating and cooling VRF systems, these spaces have the potential to be partitioned for future tenant fit out purposes if required. In these situations, the indoor heads can easily be changed to match the capacities required as per the tenant’s revised floor plans.

All air conditioning units on site are centrally controlled by an AE-200E Central Controller and three AE-50E Sub Central Controllers, each with their own touch screen displays.
