The Challenge

The SPCA was no longer able to effectively service the Auckland region from a single centre based in Mangere due to the exponential growth of the city. Being accessible to families and having more temporary homes for sick animals will help save pets while facilitating adoption. The mechanical systems for this building have been designed to meet the high standards of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV) Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters (2010).

The Mitsubishi Electric Solution

eCubed Auckland selected Mitsubishi Electric City Multi Hybrid VRF (HVRF) & Lossnay products to supply a constant temperature of 20°C in the animal rescue/housing areas, while being adjustable via a BMS. A constant air volume is also required to achieve 10-20 air changers per hour for each space in line with ASV requirements, so that supply air is 100% from outdoors and is designed to keep the spaces between 18-25°C.

The heat pump services enclosed rooms that house animals, therefore City Multi HVRF was the best solution to meet NZS5149 Critical Refrigerant Standard in confined spaces, so there is no potential refrigerant leaks in occupied spaces while providing a milder air off temperature similar to that of a chilled water system for improved comfort.

Two Lossnay LGH Commercial Ventilation Systems have also been provided to meet the required number of air changes per hour while also removing any canine respiratory pathogens that can be easily transmitted through the air, so the air is cleaner and fresher in enclosed spaces.
