The e-Series Modular Chiller Range from Mitsubishi Electric is a modern update on a traditional chiller system, offering advanced temperature control, unparalleled efficiencies and a wide operating temperature range, all in a flexible modular format that is ideal for New Zealand Food and Beverage businesses such as wineries, breweries, orchards, dairy factories and other commercial stores.

Disrupting the Status Quo of Chiller Hire
Often directed by season, produce growers and wineries will hire their large capacity chillers in peak production months to avoid the cost of maintenance, running energy costs when requiring low loads in off-peak months and reduce the space needed for a permanent plant room to house the chiller.
However, with the energy efficient and flexible Mitsubishi Electric e-Series Modular Chiller Range, it can now be cost effective and convenient to own rather than hire to meet processing needs.
Featuring a Modular Format to Support Growth
Instead of a large, single chiller, up to six smaller modules can be connected together to provide the same level of output. This modular format and compact design reduces plant space requirements as well as simplifying logistics and installation.
Model | kW output per module | Maximum kW output with 6 connected modules |
---|---|---|
P900 | 90kW | 540kW |
M1500 | 150kW | 900kW |
M1800 | 180kW | 1,080kW |
Furthermore, the modular nature of the chillers means that owners can upscale as their operation grows over time without having to invest in a large capacity unit up front to compensate for potential expansion.

Optional Built-in Header Piping Reduces Space Requirements and Offers Easier Installation
Header pipes, which are required to connect units together, can be built into the unit. This feature reduces the space requirements needed for a chiller plant. Multiple units are easily connectable by the internal headers, eliminating the need to procure water pipes for connecting the units and reducing installation work.
Easy Maintenance without Delaying Production

When installed using the inbuilt headers, individual modules can be isolated from the water circuit thanks to the inbuilt isolation valves. This allows for maintenance to be carried out while the other modules remain in operation.

This is crucial in peak seasons when a stop to controlled cooling can result in loss of produce and revenue. During vintage season when wineries have to harvest thousands of tonnes of produce in a short timeframe, if the picked grapes warm up too much they'll start to ferment early, which ruins the flavour and quality of the wine.
Wide Operating Temperature Range
Chillers are relied upon in food and beverage industries to keep a constant temperature, especially in factory environments that can cause hot indoor temperatures.
It is imperative that dairy milk is cooled and remained constantly chilled to a level where bacteria cannot grow – in fact the New Zealand Government requires raw milk supply to be kept at or below 6°C* prior to manufacturing. This allows dairy products to be transported, stored, and manufactured without spoiling and ensuring product is safe for later consumption. Breweries also rely on particular temperatures for fermentation; yeast must not get too hot (over 40°C) or it will die and taint the flavour of the beer.
The Inverter controlled fan and compressor of the e-Series Chiller enables precise control of outlet water temperatures, resulting in stable operation. M1500 and M1800 models deliver chilled water as low as 4°C, while with Glycol the P900 delivers chilled water down to -10°C without freezing. Both models have options to deliver heated water up to 55°C.

The P900 e-Series Model Provides Sub-Zero Cooling
The P900 supports a wider outlet water temperature setting down to -10°C without freezing through the use of Glycol. This means in a winery application, an e-Series P900 Chiller can chill wines to sub-zero temperatures without freezing the insides of the winemaking vessel.

Energy Efficient Performance with Advanced Controls
Typical chiller control systems allow units to run at a maximum capacity while other units are in standby during part load. The Mitsubishi Electric e-Series Chiller Range is designed to optimise chiller compressor frequency based on the number of connected units, maintaining the highest part load efficiency possible.

e-Series Modular Chiller Range with Optimum Frequency Control

With up to six units operating in one bank, this function improves system efficiency when operating at low to medium loads. Furthermore the run time of each unit is equalised by the control system, this prevents uneven wear on the units and extends the lifespan class= of the system.
The Versatile e-Series Modular Chiller Range
With system capacities available from 90kW up to 1080kW, there is an e-Series Modular sure to suit any application.
