Opening in February 2019 and located near the Grafton and Newmarket University of Auckland Campus’, the new Grafton Hall facility houses 324 students across 3 buildings, to accommodate the ever increasing student numbers.
University of Auckland Student Accommodation
The residence will welcome both local and international first year students, and for many will be their first home away from home, therefore comfort was paramount. With so many students' studying as well as coming and going during all hours of the day, energy efficiency and quality air conditioning with stable temperatures in their lounge and study spaces across multiple floors and buildings was also a high priority for the university. And, with only small room footprints, a solution which could fit and accommodate all these various requirements was needed.
Mitsubishi Electric Hybrid VRF was an excellent solution to provide optimum comfort and energy efficiency while avoiding any need for refrigerant sensors by using water in the occupied space. The designers also factored in the coastal nature of Auckland by including marine treated units to safe guard against salt spray and the local sea breeze. Control of the system is through local wall controllers and a touch screen central wall control in each building connecting back to a BMS system for total integration.
