The Challenge

The goal for this Wellington family was to create a warm and inviting refuge for their family and friends away from the chaos of corporate Wellington. Top priority was the ability to ‘get away’ at a moment’s notice, therefore their Tuscan inspired home had to be able to heat on demand. Designing an energy-efficient total home heating and ventilation solution for a masonry home with exposed polished concrete floors meant the house had to be correctly specified and the correct product selections made.

The Solution

With the assistance of Mitsubishi Electric’s dealer network and resident engineers, the couple turned to installing a Mitsubishi Electric City Multi Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) System. Capable of encompassing multiple types of indoor units, this system is capable of powering the ducted heat pump system, floor unit and the two concealed mini ducted units in the bedrooms the owners chose to incorporate. Not only this, the VRF system also efficiently heats the water used in underfloor heating of the polished concrete floors on both levels of the house. Extremely quiet and discreet, this system allows the heating or cooling of each individual room to be tailored to the needs of that room.

For the overarching need to heat the home at a moment’s notice the couple turned to installing a Mitsubishi Electric AG-150A Control System. With a state of the art 9” LCD colour touch screen, the couple can control all the aspects of the home’s heating and ventilation systems, including the underfloor heating system. More importantly, this web enabled controller has allowed the owners to maintain complete control of their remote residence, through the control system’s online accessibility. The system’s remote controllability and high operating efficiency means pre-heating or even pre-cooling the home is both simple and cost effective, all whilst allowing the owners to escape the chaos of corporate wellington and arrive to complete comfort from the moment they walk through the front door.
