The colours that have excited us in 2015 continue to inspire and will carry forward into the new year ahead without any drastic changes.
Our much loved neutrals are here to stay, they are tried and true and allow us to make accent changes quickly and with ease. Stony tones, earthy shades and true greys are still popular and continue to be included in our colour palettes however we will see an increase of the icy greys and pretty feminine greys as we take a step back from the muddier versions used in the past. There is something soothing about these simplistic but moody hues when paired with the trending shades of soft and subtle mints, sweet and dusty pinks or playful watermelon.
Our favourite fresh, clean and bright whites are here to stay and that’s not changing anytime soon. The resurgence of timber trending so strongly sees our warmer whites moving back into our palettes with renewed vigour as these sit comfortably with raw materials and complement the natural elements being used in design. Whites with the slightest touch of blush to them are also creeping into our homes and complement beautifully with the smokier tones of charcoal and grey.
Metallic accents are growing stronger as we start to see more of the rose golds, brassy and true gold tones used along with the latest favourites of copper and silvers. Metallic finishes fit well with almost all design styles when used in small but effective ways.
When it comes to on trend colours, the year ahead is still on its adventure path. Pastels and sorbets are still in and we will be using them with deep charcoals and smoky neutrals for a slightly more urban city look, offset with some timber finishes and the odd metallic accent.
Inky blues, china blues and jungle greens are on the up and will start working our way into our palettes. Tangerine shades of oranges move into our colour palettes and complement the natural elements in design such as timber accents, concrete and lively botanical greenery.
We are adding colour into our homes in new and interesting ways. Feature walls in a solid colour are still making stunning statements but we will be doing more hand crafted looking statement walls with paint or wallpaper in geometrical patterns, stripes, ombre finishing and wash effects.
Sneak a peek into wardrobes and you might discover a brilliant pop of colour or visit the guest toilet and you could be wowed by metallic and bold ceiling colour choices.
Inspiration is everywhere and there is an abundance of it in the year ahead so why not get adventurous, play with new Resene paint colours and decorate your interior with a clever and confident colour statement?
