What is your favourite colour?
My favourite colour is navy blue, but it has to be the right shade, and Dulux's Piha is perfect. In fact, I love it so much, I've used it to paint my house.
What is your design aesthetic?
Anything but minimal - I just cannot do minimal. White kitchens with nothing on a white bench give me a migraine. I love colour, and tend to buy objects because I'm in love with the colour, more than the object, which can be problematic! Furniture has to be functional - great design and colour.
What is your favourite room in your home?
Our living room, it has the most beautiful pressed metal ceiling, and I recently made some exquisite navy blue velvet, floor length curtains with bright orange pom poms sewn down the sides which I hand dyed. It's a calm and tranquil space.
Where do you find your design inspiration?
From everything around me - usually people watching. I love people watching. It's like looking at a movie - the scene changes all the time and both pleasant and unpleasant things to look at come into the frame.
What is your prediction of the next design trend?
Hopefully, minimalist, boring kitchens will disappear. I have been to many open homes, and in some houses, I cannot tell one kitchen space from another; they lack personality. As the kitchen is a social place where family and friends congregate, it's important it reflects the people who live there, as opposed to a glossy magazine shoot. I want to see lots of colour and art in kitchens. I want to liven up boring kitchens.
